Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg, separated
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup flour, sifted
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup chopped nuts
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease cookie pans, set aside.
Mix together shortening, sugar, egg yolk, vanilla.
Blend in flour, salt; make into balls; dip in slightly beaten egg white, then roll in nuts.
Place on cookie sheets about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 5-8 minutes.
As soon as cookies are done, press thumbprint into cookie and let cool.
Ice cookies when cooled.
