Ingredients
1 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg, unbeaten
2 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
Directions
When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream butter and sugar thoroughly. Add egg and vanilla. Mix well.
Gradually stir in sifted dry ingredients until well blended.
Chill if needed to make easier to handle.
Roll small amounts of dough 1/8-inch thickness on a floured board.
Shape with cookie cutters as desired.
Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for about 10 to 12 minutes or until delicately browned.

I increased the sugar to 3/4 cup, but this is a great recipe for cut-out sugar cookies. In fact, I have made Halloween and Easter cut-out cookies with this recipe, decorated with colored sugar and sprinkles!
