Ingredients
1 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 teaspoons each ground cinnamon and sugar, mixed together
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Grease cookie sheets.
Cream the shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar and eggs until light and fluffy.
Combine cream of tartar, salt, flour and soda. Stir into creamed mixture. Stir in vanilla.
Combine 4 teaspoons sugar and cinnamon, mixing well.
Shape dough into balls the size of walnuts.
Roll each ball into cinnamon sugar mixture.
Place on a greased cookie sheet, flatten cookies slightly with fork.
Bake for 8-10 minutes.

Carenin...I had the same problem when I 1st made these cookies ..easiest thing to do is refridgerate the dough for min 1 1/2 hours before rolling into balls. Good luck These are my favorite Christmas and Easter cookies ..found thr recipe when I was 10 then lost it till I was in my 20's but checked every cookbook in the library for them till one year visiting with an aunt I found it in her cookbook..I did the dance of joy ..now my kids teachers do the dance of joy when i bake them for Christmas.

Delicious, Needs work,or there is something missing in the recipe. You can not roll the dough. Its to soft to roll. Any suggestions?
