Ingredients
1 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (do not use self-rising)
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup of finely chopped nuts
additional confectioner's sugar for dusting
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Mix butter, sugar, and vanilla thoroughly.
Work in flour, salt and nuts until dough holds together.
Shape dough in to 1 inch balls.
Place on ungreased baking sheet.
Bake 10-12 minutes or until set but not brown.
While warm, roll in confectioner's sugar.
Cool.
Roll in sugar again.

We make these every year - have forever. These are almost the same as the Butter Nut Balls except the cooking temperature and time. It takes a while to get the knack of compressing the somewhat dry dough into a ball. If you use margarine be sure to use the lowest water content available. Using butter makes a much better tasting cookie anyway. Its easy to overcook and brown the bottom.
